Suffering from Coronavirus Anxiety? Here are some steps to Control it
Are you fearful of what’s happening with coronavirus?
Do you notice stress levels building and don’t know how to handle it?
Let’s face it, there’s a lot of uncertainty and people are scared. That’s ok. It is ok to feel scared about something. Its how you deal with that fear that’s most important.
You could let your fear paralyse you, your life and your decision making, or you can learn to control it.
The feeling of fear is fine. It’s just a feeling. Not a pleasant one granted but a feeling all the same. It’s what you do with it that counts.
You could let the current Covid-19 frightening thoughts and pictures in your mind to drive you into stress or you can dull the associated thoughts and pictures. It’s when we make pictures in our minds of what “could” happen that we start to create all sorts of disaster scenarios and feel the pain of them in the moment we are thinking about them. We are “creating” future pain and experiencing it now.
This you can stop.
First thing to do is to accept that if there’s a feeling of fear in your body, that’s ok. It’s a perfectly normal human emotion that every human being alive has experienced. You can accept your feelings in the moment. As they are in the moment.
Next thing you can do is allow them to slip by. It can help to imagine your worries as leaves on a stream. You do NOT have to jump in after them. You can sit back, relax and watch them drift on by. Just as everything drifts on by and soon becomes a thing of the past.
Then you can act normally, calmly and confidently. Position your self as a collected and calm person with others. Inspire others by your calmness and willingness to get on with things as best you can. Be a force for good in your community.
Remember there are only 2 things you can control in life;
1. Your thoughts
2. Your behaviours
Everything else is outside of your control. If you cannot control it, you should not concern yourself with it. There’s nothing you can do so you leave it be.
Spend your energy focused on those things you can control. Your thoughts. Many things are out of your control during the coronavirus. It may take some effort initially, but you will notice it becomes a whole lot easier, the more you do it.
